The pursuit of justice…
My name is Derek Estep and I’m running for District Attorney of Washington County.
I am a seventh generation Texan, and currently the First Assistant District Attorney in the Washington County District Attorney’s office. For the last 14 years I have served the Great State of Texas as a prosecutor. The last 11 have been in Washington County. My entire career has been devoted to public service, even in law school.
Washington County has become a special place for my family. We are blessed to call this community home. My experience and understanding not only of our state laws but the legal process in Washington and surrounding counties has prepared me to take the next step. I have the utmost respect for all of our law enforcement and county officials, and I will continue working with all of them to continue the pursuit of justice. I am honored to have worked with Julie and my decision to run reflects the sense of leadership and service she embodies.
As First Assistant District Attorney I deal with just about every type of case the office sees, as well as a number of administrative duties. I regularly collaborate with law enforcement to be proactive in the investigation of cases, and act as office liaison to a number of boards and groups involves in the local administration of criminal justice.
Personally, I am an active member of Calvary Baptist Church and its building and security committee along with its sound and technology team, and I serve on the board for the Run for the Youth of Washington County. For the last 10 years I’ve trained, and helped coach, at Snow Monkey Jiu Jitsu.
I look forward to serving as your next District Attorney!
